What's Involved?

Camara takes great care to ensure that each volunteer has the confidence and skills to teach in Africa for the duration of their trip. In the months leading up to the trip (April – June) volunteers will participate in extensive training with Camara before heading out to Africa. Following training, volunteers will travel to hubs and school labs in either Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Lesotho or Rwanda for four to five weeks in July or August (depending on country travelling to). Teaching hours, in country, are variable, but will normally take place Monday to Friday with the occasional Saturday. Volunteers will have enough free time to allow them to explore their host country or community.

Prior to departure volunteers must:

  • Fundraise €2500 / £2250  (fundraising support and packs provided)
  • All applicants are required to do approximately 50 hours of training/workshop hours prior to departure. These will take place over a minimum of 3 weekends, plus some additional hours in the workshop. To see this years volunteer training schedule please click here Training schedule A10

  • Attend a 2 day orientation course for short term volunteers (included in 50 hours of training)
  • Complete a medical check up and course of vaccinations
