The Africa 2010 volunteer teams headed off to Africa on Saturday 3rd July 2010. Destined for Zambia, Rwanda and Uganda, the teams will need to hit the ground running as the first classes are due to start on the Monday morning!
Sunday morning, Addis Ababa Airport
Their 4 week training schedule offers a range of IT courses and will include classes in Networking, PC Maintenance, Web Design, Linux Administration, Moodle, School Administration Software and ICT Pedagogy.
Since April of this year volunteers have been preparing for the programme. They have worked hard to develop teaching materials for their courses, building on and improving existing materials at Camara, as well as creating new courses from scratch. Alongside this, they have had to raise the money to cover the cost of their trip which has meant weekends off have been spent bag packing in local supermarkets, organising quiz nights, running marathons, and arranging coffee mornings to name a few!
St Paul's School, Uganda
Their final training weekend passed on the 19th & 20th June on a gloriously sunny weekend at Kimmage. The weekend was a chance for volunteers to prepare themselves for the journey ahead , to ensure they understood both the impact their volunteering would have, as well as how this experience would impact on them!
