2012 Africa Programme

Camara Education will not be running a short term volunteering programme in 2012.

There have been many changes and improvements at Camara Education over the last year. One of these being the recruitment of a full time Learning Officer based in Africa, who is responsible for the training programme across all the countries we work in. As a result of this, there has been a shift in our efforts and rather than sending out teams of volunteers from Ireland, in 2012 we will be working with local trainers in country who will carry out training in the schools and develop certified training for future programmes.

This sadly means that in 2012 we will not be running an Africa Training Programme from Ireland.

Short term volunteering program

In previous years Camara has sent volunteers to Africa to train teachers, local volunteers and Camara trainers in IT skills and digital literacy. These students have then gone on to deliver training, on behalf of Camara, to schools joining the project.

The programme’s aims were as follows:

  • Provide support and training in the Camara Hubs
  • Provide a range of ICT skills in the computer labs Camara has set up in educational institutions
  • Provide an opportunity for all participants to learn and succeed
  • Provide a strong and effective support service for all Camara volunteers
