Connect Ethiopia
Thursday November 27th – Addis Ababa
I have managed to spend the last few days bumming food, drink and
money of the Connect Ethiopia group that are in town presenting
workshops and establishing business contacts with Ethiopian
organisations. Founded by Brody Sweeney and Philip Lee, Connect
Ethiopia has a strong business focus and believes that building
profitable local enterprises is [...]
That Hotel Again!
Wednesday November 26th – Adama/Addis Ababa
Most of the morning was spent with Feyissa and Eyob Girma (the
Technical Director of Hamara) talking about corporate governance, the
need to find a permanent CEO, pricing of the computers and what type
of after-market support we were providing to the schools. Eyob (who
has an Msc in Computer Science from Addis [...]
The Opening
Tuesday November 25th – Addis Ababa/Adama
Donal got back from the reception rather later than myself (3am in the
morning apparently!!) to find his room had been broken into and his
wallet and very expensive clothes had been stolen. Having got no joy
from the hotel management (it was clearly an inside job) we put the
Taitu Hotel on [...]

Extremes in Addis
This morning myself and Donal (a Camara volunteer out for 3 months
helping to get ICDL set up) went to visit a hospital/hospice/orphanage
run by the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Therese’s order) in Addis.
I won’t describe the type of lives led by people helped in this place
because their lives are indescribable but what I will say is [...]

They were from all walks of life, some students, teachers acountants, secretaries, etc. On friday we celebrated with a few St. George beers and had a sleep in saturday morning. It [...]

Ethiopia – Problem with mobile network
Hi all,
Just a quick note to say that, unfortunately, the mobile phone network is down here in Ethiopia. I spoke to some people from Ethiopia Telecom yesterday and they said that the opitcal fibre cable had been cut in Debre Zeyit (about half way between here and Addis). I’m not certain of the effect throughout [...]
Ethiopia Green Team – Update
Flashes of lightning are illuminating the sky as the boom of thunder
roll toward us. It’s nearing midnight here in Adama (aka Nazret) in
our new home for the next 2 and a half weeks – the Bekele Molla hotel
(prounced “Beka-Le-Malla”). It’s a nice place – the staff are getting
used to us at this stage – and [...]
Welcome to Ethiopia!
Right, Ethiopia is amazing! Here are a few points we’ve picked up on:
Can someone bring over a big bottle of Alcohol hand wash that Cathy (Eoghans girlfriend) will be leaving into the workshop?
Can someone pick up a Digital Video camera for Laura – it’s in the workshop. Pls bring in hand luggage
Can someone from each [...]
