GM Africa Trip – Third Installment

The meeting in the President’s Office went as well as we could have expected. The ban on the importation of refurbished computers will soon be applicable only to those below a certain specification. This year in Camara we need to bring in 20,000 PC’s to distribute 10,000 so this specification should not be a [...]

GM’s Africa Trip – Second Installment

The emergency announcement on the Boeing 787 from Lusaka to Addis Ababa was a little more formal than the one we heard previously. Two days before in Ndola on route to Lusaka, the pilot turned around to the seven passengers to tell us where the exits were, oh, and by the way can [...]

Camara reaches Rwanda’s most mountainous region of Musanze district

Camara Rwanda operations started mid last year by supporting schools in the eastern district of Bugesera. After just one month of operations, more schools from different parts of the country started seeking support from Camara. Friday and Saturday July 10/11th – Kigali/Addis/Rome/London/Dublin

Going Home Met briefly with Eddy in the morning to say good bye and pass on my old Camara T shirts (I’m sure they’ll be fine once he’s given them a good wash). Then, before departing for the airport, I went to meet my Rwandan friend but there was little compromise in his heart. Anyway not [...]

Sunday July 5th – Kigali: A day to catch up

Kigali is a beautiful city nestled among rolling green hills and I woke up early in the St Famille hostel to sun streaming through my window.  Since starting my trip this was the first day that I didn’t have meetings or places to visit so I spent the morning reading Dallaire’s account of the genocide.   [...]

Saturday July 4th – Maseru/Johannesburg/Entebbe/Kigali Airport time

Today I was in airports, four of them in total, with four different currencies, four different visa requirements and about 20 miscellaneous security checks.   I found it hard to sit still for long so spent my time wandering in and out of shops looking at the expensively priced clothes and electronic gadgets.  As I was [...]

Upon arrival our pointman Evode delivers the news – Riepa the Rwanda Investment and Promotion authority did not receive the documents and has only time tomorrow to see us, after lunch – apparently they are moving offices. And the other news was that the person who had promised us the rooms in [...]
